Koorenhuis

The Koorenhuis (corn house) is a place where Grauzone programs music, film, interviews, but also you can find here the record market and merchandise for the acts who perform at the Koorenhuis. It can be found diagonally opposite van het Paard and very easy to find. The Koorenhuis also has a bar and a place where you can sit.

About:
The Koorenhuis, once named as corn house, was built as a corn exchange in 1662-1663. It was a building where corn was stored and traded. The building was built in classicist style. Urbanus Talibert van Yperen was probably responsible for the design. In addition to being an architect, he was also a painter and one of the founders of the Confrérie Pictura. This was a society of artists (1656 – 1849) who used the corn house to meet and judge each other's art. In 1682, some of the members founded the Hague Drawing Academy, which would later develop into the Royal Academy of Art. This academy would remain in the corn house until 1839.
