FATAMORGANA, Butcher's Tears, Amsterdam

Singer Patrycja Proniewska, also known of one her spanish post-punk band Belgrado, started earlier this year a synth pop duo together with Louis Harding. We're pleased to introduce to the first dutch show of FATAMORGANA.

FATAMORGANA (ES) - (Belgrado)
"A FATAMORGANA is a phenomenon of optical illusion that appears on the horizon or in the desert. Created by the total reflection of the light across layers of warm air of differing densities, it creates the perception of the image inverted. Fatamorgana consists of the dreamlike sounds of synthesizers and echoed voiced circling around danceable rhythms. You are invited to contemplate, and move your body."

KING DUDE + KAELAN MIKLA, Paard, The Hague

Reverent as it is prophetic and stark, King Dude has previously shared his spiritual visions with releases on Dais, Avant!, Bathetic, Clan Destine, and Ván records. Pulling together the biblical sound and isolation of the bygone days of revelation with an atmosphere filled with hope and salvation, King Dude has woven his own brand of American music.
He brandishes many varied influences in his songwriting. Everything from British Folk, Americana, Country and Blues can be heard in his songs. Even the heavier sounds of Heavy Metal tend to sneak and slither it's way into the King Dude canon. The resulting songs are much more of a modern day hymn then your average pop song.
King Dude's music beg's the soul to lift itself up from the darkness of ignorance, towards the ever shining glorious "Light" that exists outside of all of us yet that which we are eternally connected to and at once connects everyone on Earth.

Kælan Mikla, a performance art trio fro Iceland, forformed just four years ago, after winning a poetry slam at their local library. Armed with thundering bass, hypnotic drums and minimal synth waves, Sólveig KristjánsdóttirMargrét Harrysdóttir and Laufey Soffíasoundtrack the apocalypse, with threatening darkwave rumblings beneath ominous monologues broadcast in their mother tongue and the occasional cathartic, blood-curdling banshee wail.

Their live performances are a rabid, pulsing, howling trip that flit between mesmerising coquettishness and the feral lashings of wild women, a push and pull of desolate beauty and dystopian panic. Inspired by both their country, and undoubtedly its unique musical legacy, from Björk to Sigur RosKælan Mikla will delight fans of Chelsea WolfeMazzy StarDaisy Chainsaw, Cocteau TwinsJoy Division and Lydia Lunch.

GANG OF FOUR, Paard, The Hague

Gang of Four equals high energy with maximal impact and getting blown away by rock ‘n roll violence. You can describe it as a bare and aggressive punk sound with strong funk- and dub-reggae influences. The band lets you dance and sweat. However they have never had a great commercial success, they have had a strong influence on other band as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Massive Attack and even U2!

Guitar player, songwriter and singer Andy Gill may call himself the leader of Gang of Four. He was praised as an innovator and copied all over the world. And now, 40 years later, his creative brain still works how we are used to. Gang of Four has released a new song with the one and only Ivanka Trump. Ivanka is quoted in ‘Ivanka (Things You Can’t Have)’ and they give taste of their new ucoming ‘Complicit’ EP, which you can expect this summer.

Soft Kill, Q Factory, Amsterdam

SOFT KILL is the brainchild of Tobias Grave as a follow up of previous band BLESSURE GRAVE. In fall 2010,

The project started demoing their first tracks which already showed their shared devotion to goth pop and post punk acts of the early 80’s. Indeed, the band’s debut full-length, “An Open Door”, is haunted by the ghosts of The Cure, Killing Joke and Magazine. After a couple of years hiatus, Soft Kill came back with their sophomore record entitled "Heresy", a six tracks collection that confirmed the band's great sense and ability in composing moody and sensitive but straight to the bones tunes that won't leave you heartless.

Cold Cave, Q Factory, Amsterdam

We're honoured to welcome Cold Cave back after they played 2 shows in 2013 and '14 at our Grauzone events. Cold Cave was founded in 2007 by Wesley Eisold, former vocalist of hardcore groups Give Up the Ghost (previously known as American Nightmare), Some Girls and Heartworm Press founder. Cold Cave has become a name synonymous with the contemporary resurgence of Darkwave and Synth Pop sub-genres, propelling Cold Cave to perform at world class museums The Getty and the Guggenheim, as well as performances with legends Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, among others. The sound has spanned from experimental industrial noise to rock’n’roll influenced electronic music.
According to the Guardian, “Wesley Eisold is an absolutely new, young god of nihilism and despair – he brilliantly captures Cold Cave’s aesthetic: the Morrissey of How Soon Is Now wailing over Nitzer Ebb beats and New Order melodies.”

FRONT 242, Paard, The Hague

Front 242 were formed in Aarschot in 1981 by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen.

After a few singles, Jean-Luc De Meyer (vocals) and Patrick Codenys joined the group and the first album, "Geography", was released. At this stage, Dirk Bergen left the group to become their manager.

In 1983, Richard 23 (Richard Jonckheere) joined the group as vocalist/percussionist. With this line-up, the band released many albums of EBM, gaining more popularity with every release. (EBM stands for Electronic Body Music, a term originally coined by Kraftwerk) They also established a solid live reputation, with an energetic show in para-military outfits. The year 1993 brought a radical change in style, with guest musicians, the disappearance of their military look and the exploration of both harder (guitar samples) and softer (female vocals, ambient) sounds. After many years of silence, except for a few live/remix-albums, Front 242 re-appeared in the spotlight in the late nineties with their Re:boot-tour, bringing modern, techno-like cover versions of their own songs. In 2003 they took a step back towards their EBM-roots, with the release of "Pulse" and "Still & Raw".

Still Corners, Q Factory, Amsterdam

Still Corners is influenced by spacey experiments of Vangelis, the expansive, cinematic sounds of Ennio Morricone, and glamorous '80s synth pop, Still Corners is the project of Greg Hughes and Tessa Murray. The group formed shortly after Hughes, an American expatriate, met Murray by chance at a London train stop in 2009.

In 2010 Still Corners released singles Don't Fall in Love/Wish on 7-inch through British psychedelia label the Great Pop Supplement with an accompanying video for Wish directed by Lucy Dyson. Selling all 700 copies in a single day saw Sub Pop take due notice and quickly sign the group. Their first full length, Creatures of an Hour, was released by Sub Pop in 2011.  By the time of their second record in 2013, Still Corners had shifted focus from '60s influences in favour of a slicker, more '80s-sound inspired by Roxy Music’s Avalon. Another Sub Pop release, Strange Pleasures includes the hit single Fireflies (Pitchfork, Best New Track) and sleeper hit, The Trip.

To record their third album, Murray and Hughes relocated from London to the English seaside. Moved by the water's intense dark colour, they named the set of songs Dead Blue. The album, which featured the Brian Wilson-inspired single Lost Boys was released on Still Corners' very own Wrecking Light Records in September 2016 and was highest-rated dream pop album on The Line of Best Fit in 2016. Still Corners return this year with a new album, Slow Air. Evoking the atmospheric sounds Still Corners are known for, Slow Air continues the band's journey with a lush, ethereal album inspired by the heat of America’s west.

It reads: “Take the fate of a human being, a thin pathetic line that contours and encircles an infinite and unknown silence.  “It is in this very silence, in an only imagined and unknown centre, that legends are born. Alas! That is why there are no legends in our time. “Our time is a time deprived of silence and secrets; in their absence no legends can grow.”

Matt Hollywood Beginning in 1991 with infamous psych-rock provocateurs The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Matt Hollywood has trodden many musical paths over the last two and a half decades. From deceptively accessible BJM standouts like Not If You Were The Last Dandy On Earth and Maybe Tomorrow, to the tripped-out folk pop of The Out Crowd, and the hazy elegance of Rebel Drones, Hollywood's songwriting has wandered through multiple genres, the playful experimentation always grounded in a core of earnest emotion. Drawing on such diverse influences as Cohen, Hazlewood, Morricone, Gainsbourg, and classic blues and country, Hollywood is returning to the road with music from his upcoming WavePOP Records release, as well as some old favorites and never-heard-live rarities.
