Hamraaz
We are delighted to welcome Hamraaz to Grauzone, a duo whose deeply moving exploration of modal and makam traditions creates a musical language that feels both ancient and strikingly contemporary. Formed in Rotterdam in 2021, Hamraaz brings together two extraordinary multi-instrumentalists: Lucie, who grew up with the traditional music of Auvergne and later immersed herself in modal traditions in Istanbul; and Khorshid Dadbeh, an Iranian musician trained in Tar, Setar, and Tanbour with a master’s degree from Codarts and a strong mission to share and evolve Iranian musical heritage.
Their collaboration emerged from the instantly compelling blend of their instruments—duduk, transverse flute, tanbour, tar—and the mutual desire to build a repertoire that honors tradition while embracing modern expression. Both musicians draw inspiration from the modal worlds they grew up in, yet remain deeply committed to creating music that speaks to the complexity and diversity of today’s global society.
Hamraaz’s music is shaped by rich rhythmic patterns, expressive ornamentation, and a deep emotional core that invites listeners into a space of cultural dialogue. Their pieces often move between composition and improvisation, allowing their instruments to converse in ways that feel intimate, fluid, and transcendent.
Their debut release Abr introduced their unique sonic identity to a wider audience, highlighting the beauty of instrumental storytelling and the duo’s meticulous craftsmanship. Through their performances, Hamraaz strive to show the shared essence of the modal traditions that shaped them, while constantly expanding the expressive possibilities of their instruments.
We are proud to welcome Hamraaz back to Grauzone, where their evocative sound world will resonate deeply with our audience.
