Nation Unrest (Uk)

Nation Unrest is a London-based EBM duo that channels the physical urgency of early electronic body music through the raw, uncompromising spirit of UK punk. Formed by Cal Graham (vocalist of street-punk act The Chisel, who will perform during Grauzone!) and Joshua Smith (Chain of Flowers), the project strips their sound to its core: hard rhythm electronics driven by analog gear, militant percussion, and dystopian intent.

Their debut EP, Hard Rhythm Electronics for a Burning World (2019, Total Control Collective), delivered four tracks of controlled aggression—blending hammering drum machine sequences, cold, commanding vocals, and scorched synth textures. The release drew comparisons to pioneers like DAF, Nitzer Ebb, Portion Control, and early Liaisons Dangereuses, while carving out its own place in the hardcore underground.

Minimal yet punishing, Nation Unrest’s sound reduces body music to its essence: rhythm, tension, and command. Designed for basement clubs, squat raves, and post-industrial rituals, their performances collapse the lines between EBM, punk, and industrial techno into sweat-drenched intensity and relentless strobe.

Standing firmly at the intersection of noise and discipline, protest and structure, Nation Unrest embody the uncompromising power of electronic body music in its purest, rawest form.
