Nürnberg (BY)

Belarus post-punk duo Nürnberg from Minsk was formed in 2016 by Yury Luhautsou (vocals, bass, synths) and Aleh Sautin (guitar). Their music is deeply rooted in the atmosphere of post-Soviet cities, channeling themes of depression, existentialism, social pressures, fatigue, but also the essential human capacities for love and compassion.

Their sound blends melancholy and gloom with raw energy, rooted in the traditions of both Eastern and Western post-punk legacy acts, such as Gang of Four, Scars, The Chameleons, Talk Talk, Killing Joke, and KINO, the albums nevertheless asserts its distinctiveness through its deep engagement with the existential and social undercurrents of contemporary Eastern European life. Moody ambiances are interwoven with shimmering reverb and bittersweet melodies, creating music that is both desolate and urgent.

All three Nürnberg albums were recorded by Molchat Doma’s Roman Komogortsev, including their latest release, Adkaz (2024, Young & Cold Records - also home to Deceits, Rue Oberkampf, Twin Tribes) which features a striking artwork created by Jonathan Sirit (Belgrado). Following successful tours across the EU, Latin America, Mexico, and China, we are thrilled to welcome Nürnberg to Grauzone Festival, where their powerful and uncompromising vision of post-punk will take the stage.
