Wearable sculptures by Daphne Karstens On previous Grauzone editions you might have seen her STRAW or RED wearable sculptures. This year her work will be back at het PAARD, where you will be able to see 6 new wearable sculptures!
Daphne Karstens (1991) combines sculpture and costume to create experimental wearable sculptures, costumes, performances and installations. Her work focuses on experimentation with materials, shape and structure on and around the body. She often works with unconventional materials and combines the individual qualities of materials with shapes and structures. She wants to explore and redefine the boundaries and possibilities of costume and wearable sculpture and show the possibilities when costumes are approached as more then a garment.
Her wearable sculptures will be brought to live by performers Maria Ribas and Sofie Kramer. Maria Ribas (1997) is an Amsterdam based performer, dancer and choreographer and dance coach for physical theatre. She danced for dance companies like Ballet National de Marseille and ICK Amsterdam and freelances for various artists around Europe. She also had durational performances and visual work presented in galleries in the Netherlands and Portugal.
Sofie Kramer (1990) is an Amsterdam based theater maker, performer and writer. The fighting body is a returning theme in her work: the body that tries to fight time, gravity, the gaze of the other. She shows these fights in physical, strongly visual and often multidisciplinary performances, musicality and the body always being the starting point of the process.
