Saint Just is Kyle Kidd (Motherboard, Black Lazarus, Mourning [A] Blk Str), Ryan Mahan (Algiers, Dead Meat, Nun Gun), and Lee Tesche (Algiers, Dead Pioneers, Nun Gun). Saint Just is what happens when one of the Black Art underground’s most thrilling and dynamic artists joins forces with members of multi-award winning post-punk doom soul subversives. Together they push elements of their previous projects into something truly new, universal, and interstellar, combining a transcendent voice of Black and Queer liberation with a vanguard of experimental, future-oriented, and pop-adjacent sonics. The group’s first work is a compelling expression of these ambitions, centering Kyle’s voice in a series of interconnected yet distinct worlds layered in Afrofuturist electronics, doomsday film score ballads, and hammering electro-acoustic jams. Their influence, while varied, pulls succinctly from Kyle’s forebears in Sylvester, Grace Jones, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, and The Clark Sisters, and Ryan Mahan and Lee Tesche’s distillation of industrial, dub, noise, rap, grime, girl-group, and gospel.
