She Can’t Afford Mascara (AUS / UK)
Emerging from Lahore, Pakistan and shaped by Berlin’s queer underground, She Can’t Afford Mascara transforms darkwave, EBM, synthpunk and gothic theatre into something fierce, seductive and wholly singular. The solo project of Pakistani artist Adam Shazard fuses punishing beats, theatrical vocals inspired by Islamic prayer, black metal intensity and cold-wave minimalism into a dramatic world where underground club culture collides with identity, ritual and rebellion.
Rooted in experiences of queerness, alienation and self-expression against conservative expectations, She Can’t Afford Mascara channels vulnerability into radical performance — dark, genderless, dangerous and deeply cathartic. Somewhere between Berlin cabaret, goth trance and industrial dancefloor ecstasy, the project turns personal history into underground theatre for the beautifully haunted.
