Tomo & Jonny (JP)
We are thrilled to present Tomo & Jonny at Grauzone, an intimate project led by Japanese artist Tomo Katsurada, best known as the founding member, guitarist of the internationally acclaimed psychedelic band Kikagaku Moyo. After years of shaping one of the most influential psych-rock acts of the past decade—and performing at Grauzone with Damo Suzuki of CAN—Tomo has embarked on a deeply personal new artistic journey.
Now based in Amsterdam, Tomo’s solo work explores the intersection of music, visual art, storytelling, and multi-instrumental experimentation. His upcoming debut solo album marks the beginning of a long-held dream: composing soundtracks for picture books. This album is the first in a planned series of five, each paired with its own book, creating a richly imaginative hybrid of sound and narrative. His compositions blend gentle psychedelia, acoustic textures, playful atmospheres, and meditative layers that evoke a sense of childlike wonder and quiet introspection.
Performing alongside Jonny, a close collaborator who expands the project’s sonic world with additional instrumentation and sensitivity, Tomo crafts performances that are immersive, emotionally warm, and visually evocative. Together, they bring a sense of intimacy and creativity that feels far removed from the scale of Tomo’s earlier band work, yet equally compelling.
With this new direction, Tomo invites listeners into a universe where music and imagery intertwine, offering a deeply personal glimpse into his evolving artistic vision. We are grateful to welcome Tomo & Jonny back to Grauzone, where their performance will offer a beautifully unique moment within the festival.
