Whitelands (UK)

Whitelands are a four-piece London-based Black British shoegaze and dreampop band, standing at the forefront of a new generation of Black British guitar music alongside Big Joanie and Bob Vylan. Their acclaimed debut Night-Bound Eyes Are Blind to the Day was released on February 23, 2024 via Sonic Cathedral (Bdrmm, Horsegirl), during their UK tour supporting shoegaze icons Slowdive. In June 2024, NME hailed it as one of the best debut albums of the year so far, leading to widespread radio support, including playlists on BBC Radio 6 Music.

The band, who grew up in Ghana and the UK, uses their music to address themes of vulnerability, racism, and the post-colonial condition The debut album is framed by two poetically political statements: Setting Sun, “another song of sadness from the Black diaspora,” confronting racism, tokenism and performative ignorance in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, and the stormy closer Now Here’s The Weather, addressing Brexit, racism, post-9/11 politics and imperialism.

In February 2023, Whitelands performed at Grauzone Festival, and we’re thrilled to welcome them back just in time for their second album Sunlight Echoes, out January 30, 2026, featuring guest vocals from Emma Anderson (Lush).
